Quarantine Activities: Week 2

It's been another week at home! Here's this week's round-up on art activities for all ages. I posted all of these on Instagram (@onkka.prints) earlier this week. Follow me to keep up on daily activities!


Free Classes on Brit + Co (through 3/31/20)

  • Teen and Adult

Why I Like It:

There are a number of options for creatives to enjoy - design, social media, photography, painting, etc! This is a great opportunity to try an online class for free to see if you enjoy it.





Learn to Weave

Supplies:

  • Yarn, string, or thin strips of fabric (3 or 4 colors is best)

  • Scissors

  • Ruler

  • Lolly sticks

  • Tape

  • Glue

  • 2 Cardboard strips (15cm x 3cm)

  • Piece of cardboard (15cm x 18cm)

Ages:

  • Elementary to Middle School

Why I Like It:

This is an excellent step-by-step tutorial that makes weaving simple and accessible. I love that a child who enjoys it could spend hours creating coasters or mini rugs. The tutorial also integrates art history.




Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems

Supplies:

  • Pencil, Markers, Etc

  • Paper

Ages:

  • Elementary

Why I Like It:

Mo Willems is the Mr. Rogers of the art world! He broadcasts a daily doodle everyday, in which he demonstrates a drawing and talks to kids about life. It is comforting, educational, and inspiring!




Tape Mural

Supplies:

  • Painter's Tape

  • A Wall!

Ages:

  • Teen to Adult

Why I Like It:

This is a great activity for teens to do in their bedroom or on a blank wall in your house. It lets them work large-scale and helps them understand how art can dynamically change a space.



Mini Sculptures

Supplies:

  • Playdough or modeling clay

  • Toothpicks

Ages:

  • Preschool to early elementary

Why I Like It:

This is a great way to introduce simple engineering! Challenge young kids to create a multilayer structure. There is more than one solution to this problem, which encourages them to be creative problem-solvers!





Pizza Party

Supplies:

  • Cardboard

  • Misc paper

  • Scissors and/or kraft knife

  • Markers

  • Glue

Ages:

  • Preschool to Upper Elementary

Why I Like It:

Everyone likes dreaming up their perfect pizza! This activity easily integrates math concepts and can be great role play for little ones. Make an afternoon of it - order up a pizza, let your child make it, and enjoy a meal together!


Community Chalk Walk!

  • Sidewalk Chalk

Ages:

  • Family

Why I Like It: It's the perfect time of year to get out and decorate your sidewalks! Whether . you draw or write, your friends and neighbors will love seeing your creations on their walks!

  • All materials provided in the kit

Ages:

  • Adult

Why I Like It: Candace is a Duluth artist who also teaches classes at many folk schools. By purchasing this kit, you not only get an excellent project but you also support a local artist!
