Quarantine Art Activities: Art History

This week we dove into some great art history activities for the whole family!


Roy Lichtenstein Fruit Bowls

Supplies:

  • Colored paper, including any decorative paper from last week's printmaking activities!

  • Glue

  • Scissors

  • Markers

Ages: Elementary to High School

Why I Like It: Pop Art is always a hit with kids (and adults!). With this activity, you can research examples of Lichtenstein's work and then create your own artwork with simple supplies! Set up a fruit bowl at home to add the extra challenge of working observationally.



Between Art and Quarantine Challenge

Supplies:

  • Found objects!

Ages: All Ages!

Why I Like It: This challenge is hilarious and fun...and it's going viral! There are thousands of entries on Instagram. Use the tags to find and submit photos!


Piet Mondrian Collage

Supplies:

  • Colored paper

  • Scissors

  • Glue

Ages: Elementary

Why I Like It: The Hirshhorn Museum is posting short art activities on their instagram page. This one is simple and accessible to young artists. Before you start, research Mondrian's artwork and ask your child about what they see, how they feel, and what they like about the artwork.


MoMA Surrealist Exquisit Corpse

Supplies:

  • Paper

  • Drawing supplies

Ages: Elementary to adult

Why I Like It: MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art in New York City) is one of my all-time favorite museums. It has guided activities and resources just for kids, including audio and visual content. This surrealist activity is always a hit with kids and families. Learn a little about art history while having fun!



One Minute Sculptures

  • Found objects

Ages: All Ages

Why I Like It: The Tate Museum created this challenge to create a sculpture and hold it for one minute! It is inspired by the work of Erwin Wurm. You can do this inside or outside.
