PAPER WEAVING
Source: @heart_class
Supplies:
Paper (two sheets of contrasting color/design)
Scissors
Glue/Tape
Ages: Preschool and Elementary
Why I Like It: This is a great introduction to weaving concepts! It requires minimal materials and you can scale it to whatever size you need. (Take a mini weaving in the car! Make a large weaving in the yard!)
TIP: Use old artworks (especially ones that have "mistakes") and give them new life!
CARDBOARD LOOM
Source: @careless_threads
Supplies:
Cardboard
Glue
Scissors
String
Assorted yarn
Ages: Elementary to Adult
Why I Like It: Making the loom helps young artists understand the concept of weaving. Once they master simple weaving patterns, they can try adding textures and patterns!
CIRCLE LOOM
Source: @my.little.makes
Supplies:
Cardboard
Scissors
Assorted yarn
Ages: Elementary and Middle School
Why I Like It: Reminiscent of a spider's web, this project will automatically intrigue young artists! It is a great project to take in the car (just make sure you cut yarn ahead of time!).
WRAPPED STICKS
Source: @my.little.makes
Supplies:
Found sticks
Yarn or embroidery thread
Glue
Adornments (googly eyes, texture, etc)
Ages: Preschool and Elementary
Why I Like It: Kids love sticks! You can make an afternoon of this activity - from scavenging for the right kind of sticks, to wrapping them, to decorating, and then playing with them!
