The Backcountry Series

This series of four woodcut prints represents the four distinct seasons in the northwoods. Specifically, each print is inspired by my own experiences in the BWCA (Boundary Waters Canoe Area) where I first grew to love the boreal forest. When I was 17, I ventured north from Wisconsin to spend my entire summer as a high school volunteer at Wilderness Canoe Base, a canoe camp at the end of the Gunflint Trail. I spent five more summers there after that. Now, fifteen years (and countless trips to the BWCA) later, I live in Grand Marais. I have enjoyed getting better acquainted with each of the four seasons.

Here are the four prints! Each one is 4 x 6" printed on white paper. The images are designed, carved, and printed by me in my little studio in Grand Marais.
